As one of the sub programmes of the Security and Safeguarding Liberties Framework Programme, the goal of the Prevention and Fight Against Crime program is to fight all forms of crime and thereby increase the security and well being of EU citizens.
While the programme directly promotes coordination and cooperation among law enforcement agencies, national authorities and Union bodies, it also encourages the development of new methods of fighting crime and encourages effective protection of victims and witnesses.
The program brings together:
Law enforcement agencies and local, regional or national authorities
Public and private organizations, NGOs and social partners
Universities, statistical offices
The programme's actions are divided into three areas:
Law enforcement
Crime prevention and criminology
Protection of witnesses and victims
The Commission, NGOs, national governments or transnational groups consisting of at least 2 Member States or one MS and an applicant country can take several forms of actions:
Prepare or complement transnational projects or Union actions
Develop new methods or technologies of fighting crime for Member States or applicant countries
Protect the EU and its citizens from terrorist attacks
However, in order to receive financial funding for work taken under this program, the projects must fall under one of the following actions:
Work that increases mutual understanding, develops contingency plans or increases the exchange of information among authorities |
Analysis, monitoring, inspection or evaluation
Education or training
Dissemination of information to relevant actors or the public
