Public Health Programme

The Public Health programme is an incentive measure designed to protect and improve human health and aim to achive:
| • Improve citizens' health security |
| • Promote health for prosperity and solidarity |
| • Generate and Disseminate Health Knowledge |
Public Health programme aims to promote the co-operation and co-ordination between Member States and other legislative measures: setting up of high standards of quality and safety of tissues and blood, measures in the veterinary and phytosanitary fields, which have as direct objectives the protection of public health or Council recommendations. All these actions shall fully respect the responsibilities of the Member States for the organisation and delivery of health services and medical care.
As regards the implementation of the programme, priority has been given to projects which;
| Protect citizens against health threats and improve Member States' capacity to respond to health threats |
Facilitate healthy active ageing and bridge inequalities, with a particular emphasis on the New Member States |
| Promote co-operation between health systems on cross-border issues such as patient mobility and health professionals |
| Decrease alcohol, tobacco and drug consumption |
| Exchange knowledge and best practice by bringing together expertise from different countries |
